The Kombucha Bra

The project explores alternative ways of producing garments by combining digital fabrication techniques with one the oldest of known processes known to humanity: fermentation.

Placed in sweetened tea, the Kombucha scoby breaks down sucrose producing a cellulose film. When a 3-dimensional object is placed  below the surface, the sheets forms according to its form, giving the possibility to create tailored shapes.
Grown on a 3D printing replica of the human body, The Kombucha Bra presents a new opportunity to create a biodegradable tailored bra that acts like a second skin.

Appositely created for the shape of one’s breats, the Kombucha bra proposea a slower process, in a tune with natural cycles and opposing to fast fashion rythms. The bra  becomes a breathable  textile that acts as a second skin.
